What Level of Coverage is Recommended Auto Insurance Coverage for San Francisco Drivers?

Friday, September 16th, 2011

All cars registered in San Francisco must have at least the minimum level of car insurance protection mandated by state law in place. The coverage limits in the state are relatively low, which should help to keep coverage rates affordable for most drivers, but buying a no-frills policy with a low policy limit may not provide a driver with enough coverage to adequately protect him or her if an accident occurs.

The minimum level of auto insurance liability coverage required under CA state law is $15,000 to pay for damages and personal injury claims made by a single accident victim and $30,000 to pay for medical bills and related expenses claimed by all victims of the same accident. Property damage liability coverage is also required in the state, and at least $5,000 in protection must be put in place to pay for repairs to the other driver’s vehicle and any public property damaged or destroyed in the accident.

If a serious accident occurs, a policy with this level of protection may not be sufficient to pay for all claims. A vehicle owner who has the following level of coverage in place is a lot less likely to be stuck having to pay for damages caused in an accident personally:

  • $100,000 in bodily injury liability protection to pay for injuries suffered by a single accident victim
  • $300,000 in bodily injury protection to pay for injury claims made by two or more people injured in the same accident
  • $100,000 in property damage liability coverage

Alternatives to Tricky California Auto Insurance Coverage

Friday, August 26th, 2011

Car insurance buyers who have been rated as high risk may be tempted to resort to tricky California auto insurance tactics to try to get coverage, but this is not a good strategy. An insurance company may issue a policy instantly to customers who buy online, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t take the time to check out the information on the application form. The insurer will pull an applicant’s driving record to confirm how long he or she has been licensed and to check to see whether any claims have been reported on the policy. The insurer has the option of  canceling the policy on grounds of fraud or misrepresentation, and a lapse in coverage will make it more challenging for a driver to find another company interested in extending coverage.

A person who has been rated as non-standard for car insurance coverage purposes will likely be paying higher rates for his or her coverage, but that doesn’t mean that he or she doesn’t have options. There are companies which specialize in providing coverage to this niche market, and the rates that they charge will vary, depending on how comfortable the insurer is with assuming risk on behalf of a policyholder.

Depending on the reason for being classified as non-standard, a driver may be able to improve his or her rating. If higher rates are being charged because of an accident or moving violations, a person can qualify for better pricing by maintaining a clean driving record for several years.

California Online Auto Insurance

Friday, August 26th, 2011

When you purchase California online auto insurance, you will be bound by the same legislation that is enforced when policies are bought from land-based offices or telephone call centers. Although auto insurance is often cheaper online, road users are still obliged to purchase the minimum 30/15/5 levels of cover that are mandatory throughout the entire state of California.

So why is California online auto insurance so much cheaper? When a carrier sells their products from an office or over a telephone, their sales teams are aware of the fact that they have your complete attention and that there is no competition to steal your custom away in that exact moment of time. To a certain degree, they know that they can inflate their prices and if you’re desperate for a policy, all they have to do is close the deal.

When you purchase California online auto insurance, every single carrier is operating in an open marketplace where their competitors are fighting for the same business. To secure business, those carriers have to offer something exceptional in order to warn off the competition and one of the most appealing factors that can influence a buying decision for consumers is price.

At Promiga, we offer California online auto insurance at fantastic prices, but we never lower the quality of our products to make them more appealing on a monetary basis. We offer superior coverage at a superior price, and we only use superior auto insurance carriers to partner our website. By dealing with best, we can always bring you the best and that’s always been the Promiga way!
